A Tribute To A Great Friendship

You have read or heard me talk about friendship on many occasions. I know that I always publicly thank all those people close to me who support me in every adventure I decide to undertake. Those who have the courage to grow with me, sharing their talents, creativity, effort, and even their wise words.

Today may not be a special day, but I feel that this is a good time to celebrate someone unique in my life. That friend who has been with me for more years than I can count, a friend who, together with his family, has always made me feel like one more in his home. He is currently one of the 3 brothers discussing very interesting topics every week on the Argue Bros: Frederick Moseley, also known as FredInProgress.

My best friend forever

I met Fred during my freshman year in high school and he has been my best friend ever since. A bond created by great trust and a multitude of similarities that not even distance could destroy back then when I had to move to Worcester for a while.

I think the key to this life-long friendship is that in a way we look like parallel versions of the same person. Surprisingly, we take the concept of similarity to another level. Besides sharing interests in sports, technology, and even a passion for anime, our lifestyles and upbringing are also very comparable.

Some of our parent’s and sisters’ actions seemed interchangeable, with imperceptible differences. That allowed us to share each other’s homes on countless occasions while still feeling like family. And it also makes it very easy for us, and for anyone else to understand why we get along so good, and why our friendship has worked so well and for so long.

Basketball and football connected us from day one in the sporting realm. And I had the joy of being the one to introduce him to the wonderful world of soccer. He rejected it at first, but he ended up liking it and even playing it a couple of times.

While we may support different teams and annoy each other by making fun of our opponents, our friendship is built on stronger, indestructible foundations that will not break over simple things such as differing opinions.

Best friends sometimes come and go but “brothers” are forever.

A real-life role model

I consider my friend Fred to be – in addition to everything you will read in this post – a true fighter. As you may have read previously here on my website, Fred had the courage it took to recognize the unfortunate situation he was in at one point in his life. But most of all, to will himself to change it. And he did.

He went from being a young man with a low-paying job and poor health (that was compromised by obesity and diabetes resulting from food addiction and a meaningless lifestyle) to leaving his parents’ home, and taking charge of his wellbeing, undergoing surgery, and dedicating himself to his passion. All in order to save his life.

He also successfully set out to break paradigms, doing everything in his power to make his skin color a blessing instead of a sentence dictating how he would live his life and what to expect from it.

With his day-to-day life, he strives to show that while some conditions may make some people’s lives a little more difficult than others, this should not be an excuse not to try, not to fight for what we want until we get it. That the only thing under our control is ourselves, and until we take responsibility for this, we will live an insignificant life.

And today it is ready for a new chapter

Fred’s incredible personal transformation did not stop there in his aforementioned huge accomplishments. His experiences have made him a guide for his life and that of many others. And he is still looking for more, trying to lead other people down that same path of determination that will lead them to find the best version of themselves. That is why he has decided to make his way as a life coach in a project called FIP Solution.

A space where you will find clarity and support to help you achieve what you set out to accomplish, to identify through introspection what is holding you back on your path to success, why, and how to overcome it. And there is no better example of his successful work in life coaching than himself.

We are a work in progress

I learn from Fred every day. But certainly, the best lessons I learned from him include the meaning of friendship, that no distance or obstacles can break it when it is for real. That as humans, we are a work in progress, and that what we can do or give depends on what we choose to do or give. That there is always room for improvement even at our worst or at our best…

…And that there is still a long way to go for these brothers.
