When we talk about brainstorming, the first thing that comes to mind is team meetings where people discuss all the possible ideas to achieve a goal. But what happens when you are starting out on your own and there is no team to consult with? And what about times when we are not even sure of what our goals are?
Yes, it’s a process that can be overwhelming. But you don’t have to go through it all alone. You have someone to lean on, even if you may have not noticed it yet.

Brainstorming is defined as “the process of pondering ideas by one or more individuals in an attempt to find a solution to a problem”. From this definition alone, it’s easy to see that brainstorming – and its success – is vital for a business to prosper.
Most people relate brainstorming to ideas for new products or marketing campaigns, but it can also be used for internal procedures, company structure, written articles… For any purpose or task.
Capital isn’t that important in business. Experience isn’t that important. You can get both of these things. What is important is ideas.

Exchanging ideas with our friends allows us to bring out the best in ourselves. The best of everyone involved. And also the worst when not everyone is on the same page. In my particular case, I find it a very satisfying process, as I prefer those people so close to me to correct me and tell me that I am wrong, rather than a stranger or colleague.
In addition, instead of one person carrying the responsibility for producing good ideas, you can share the burden among trusted people who will bring different points of view to the table. Perspectives loaded with honesty, no matter how crazy they may seem. Good intentions for you and your business. Ideas that will ultimately become more and better options from which to choose the way forward.
Things to Consider when Brainstorming with your Friends
I honestly don’t know how many businesses are run from a business point of view and how many are run from a different perspective, such as the one I am presenting now. What I do know is that for me, the most productive sessions I have had regarding business and personal matters have always been with intimate people. This can also work for many entrepreneurs as long as they keep the following in mind:
- Your family and friends already know the pros and cons of you as an individual and your business. They see both quite often, they are aware of your failures and progress. Furthermore, they know how you think and how you would react to certain events within the business and the organization. So they can offer an honest and constructive opinion, told in the best possible way.
- Having a productive session with your close friends can be very easy when everyone is focused. And it can happen anywhere, anytime, even without prior arrangement. You can coordinate a space in everyone’s agenda to discuss certain aspects, or exchange opinions on the spot during a barbecue.
- The resulting improvements will allow you to receive earnings at no cost, as your friends and loved ones are supporting you with their ideas.
- For those who cannot differentiate between earning money and maintaining a relationship, I suggest starting the process with a joint hobby. This will allow you to understand how to get along with each other before risking finances. And the relationship.
